Memorial Day 2025

Dear Friends,

Memorial Day is coming Monday. It seems that the meaning of this holiday has - like many others - become lost in a plethora of sales, "the beginning of summer" parties, end of school, etc. We will be doing some of those things too, but let's take a few minutes to consider what this holiday is REALLY all about.

Originally known as Decoration Day and observed on May 30 - at the outset businesses did not have sales - rather, they CLOSED and communities turned out to place flowers on the graves of local soldiers in solemn remembrance of their sacrifice to protect the freedoms of others.

Memorial Day, as Decoration Day came to be known, became a Federal holiday in 1968, and the date was changed to the last Monday in May in order to provide a three-day weekend for Federal employees.

Unfortunately, the parades, placing of flowers, and the recognition of what this day is all about seems to be fading, and Denise and I would like you to pause to remember and give thanks for those who have fallen - and those who today put their lives on the line for the rest of us. We will be taking the weekend off from shipping but will resume shipping on Tuesday.

As many of you know, Denise and I have been on the road for a bit over a week doing research and exhibiting at the AMPS convention.

During that time we had a number of new books come in and now Denise and I have begun putting books in stock. We’ve not gotten everything on line yet, but we have gotten several items on line. Some of the incoming items that ARE now on line are:

Unfortunately, many of the deliveries arriving over the past three weeks suffered from poor handling by the freight carriers, and as a result, we have a large number of new but damaged books which we are offering at substantial savings. We are still putting these books on line - there are several of them, so please check back over next few days.

While at the AMPS Convention we had a daily drawing - the Friday winner claimed his prize, but the Saturday winner, Lee Van Vleet, did not claim his winnings. Lee, if you will contact us from the email address you used to register, we'll fill you in on how to claim your prize. If we don't hear from Lee by next Wednesday, we'll pull another name, which will then be announced in our next newsletter.
