David Doyle Books News #65
A Couple of Shipping Updates
Dear Friends,
As you know, it is very unusual for us to send two newsletters in the same week - in 15 years there have probably been fewer than six instances - but this is one of them. And we apologize for additional traffic.
We have heard from some of you regarding "missing" or delayed packages - most often these contain either the new Loening Amphibian book or the Ward LaFrance wrecker book. These were shipped in mid-August. Tracking on some of these shows that they have been lingering in the Milan post office for some time.
That is simply not true. Please allow me to elaborate, and I will start by saying Milan is a small town, and the staff at the post office is superb - we know more than half of them by name - and they know us too. On days when our shipping has been heavy, the postmaster himself has come to help collect our outgoing mail (when there was more than the rural carrier's vehicle would accommodate) On other occasions, the custodian has brought our mail out to our place, because they knew we'd been awaiting product from overseas (our normal service time is late afternoon), and they wanted to get our mail to us early. The building is a classic small-town WPA design - meaning packages "lingering" would be apparent to a number of people who would CARE.
No, despite what tracking may say - the delayed packages are in fact at s sorting plant in Memphis, where there is considerably less care than in Milan, and Media Mail is not prioritized.
You WILL get your publications, (and my local postmaster is leaning on the powers that be to break this deadlock), and we are sorry for the delay. Fortunately, this impacts only a few of you.
Earlier this week there was another shipping issue. Our web platform provider is Squarespace, and the shipping platform is ShipStation (you may have seen TV ads for both of these firms). Midweek this week, these two platforms stopped "talking" to each other. That is, orders were not being sent from Squarespace to Shipstation for the postage calculations and generation of shipping labels and transmission of shipping information.
These problems are now resolved, and we are working to catch up on our shipping (which should be back on schedule soon). Thank you for your patience with both of these anomalies.
Speaking of shipping, as a reminder, this Sunday is the final day for our "free domestic shipping on orders over $15" policy. Starting Monday shipping will be $4 on all domestic orders up to $75; domestic orders over $75 remains free.
Also, Monday is the final day for our no discount code needed 30% off Squadron-Signal book sale.
Since our Wednesday newsletter we received additional Warpaint books and a restock on Tank Power books.
Denise and I pray you all have a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend
Sincerely,
David and Denise
