Recognize Those Who Served
Hello Friends,
Every day Denise and I are thankful and blessed to live in "the land of the free and home of the brave" - privilege we have because of the brave men and women who through the decades have served in the armed forces. Whether they volunteered through a sense of patriotism, or because initially the military seemed a great job and career; or they were drafted, they did their duty, and served their nation - and "the nation" is you and me, our children and our grandchildren. Because of the research required for our writing, we have the privilege of working almost daily with current and former members of the armed forces, and we now live in a community with a large military presence. These men and women are universally underpaid, and too often are under appreciated.
Fortunately, at least the nation has set aside a holiday to recognize their service - and to those of you on this list who have served or are serving, Denise and I would like to extend our sincere and personal "thank you" for your service, and the sacrifice that you and your families have made.
We’d also like to ask our friends and subscribers to take some time this coming Monday to contemplate how your lives would be different if it were not for the service of the veterans that preserved our liberty, and please personally thank those veterans that you encounter. Regrettably, it seems many remember that stores and shops, ours included, have Veterans Day sales, yet few remember WHY there is the holiday. Brave men and women - whether by volunteering, or by not shirking the draft - risked - and continue to risk - their lives - to preserve our way of life. Do your part to let the veterans know that they are appreciated.
As a special THANK YOU to our many customers who are current or former members of our armed forces, we are offering an additional 20% off our already discounted prices on the Legends of Warfare series books. To claim the extra discount, enter the discount code DD214 during checkout. Sale prices are valid until midnight Tuesday 11 November, or while supplies last. We work on the honor system - no need to send a copy of your separation papers or military ID.
Please note - a lot of "ground" package services - USPS, UPS and FedEx (some of the mail is handled under contract by FedEx) - actually move in part by air. With both Memphis (home of the FedEx superhub) and Louisville (home of UPS's Worldport) being on the list airports with mandated flight reductions, I expect delivery times to begin to get longer, regardless of carrier selection.
Denise and I remain honored and grateful for your ongoing support.
Sincerely,
David and Denise Doyle
