David Doyle Books News #84

Dear Friends,

Eighty-one years ago today the 101st Airborne Division (and elements of the 9th Armored Division) arrived at the important crossroads town of Bastogne, Belgium, reinforcing elements of Combat Command B of the 10th Armored Division which had arrived the day before. These units were intent on holding the town against the counter attacking German armies.

Bitter fighting ensued around Bastogne, as it had in several areas along the 75-mile wide front that the Germans opened in the Ardennes region.  St. Vith, Eisenborn Ridge, Foy, Hoffalize,  Grandménil and numerous other towns saw horrific fighting.  Bastogne was encircled completely on the 21st, and the next day German General Heinrich von Lüttwitz sent a delegation to demand the surrender of the Allied forces in Bastogne.  The famous response by US General Anthony McAuliffe - "NUTS" cemented both the general and his men into history (although arguably McAuliffe's earlier work in the Supply Division of the War Department General Staff had an even greater impact on the outcome of the war.)

Today, the siege of Bastogne is so well remembered that it overshadows the other courageous actions by Allied forces during the Battle of the Bulge.  Also, the focus on the ground offensive by the German forces overshadows the fact that the Luftwaffe played a role in the (failed) German counter offensive.

To help remember the well-known, as well as the less well-known, facts about the Battle of the Bulge, we are offering an additional 25% off our already low prices on books about the Battle of the Bulge AND the Luftwaffe.  To claim these savings, enter the discount code "NUTS" during checkout. This offer is good until midnight Monday 22 December or while supplies last.

We are pleased to say that since our last newsletter we have received the Special Crossover Edition of Dioramag, as well as a restock of back issues of DioramagAbrams Squad magazine, and books from the same publisher.

Also arriving this week was the new Spycatchers, Interrogators, and Analysts book about US tactical military intelligence in WWII - plus we have restocked many of AK Interactive and Airmark books.

THANK YOU to those of you who joined our book of the month club.  We have begun making the initial shipments, and expect to finish mailing the first month's books to members early next week.

Looking for last minute gifts?  We have our gift cards available in multiple denominations!

Denise and I pray that all of you and yours remain safe during these cold winter days, and continue to be grateful for your ongoing support.

Sincerely,
