Douglas A-26K Invader

Description

This is the 1/48 scale Monogram A-26 kit, significantly modified.

This model includes the addition of the old High Flights Replicas conversion. The conversion includes the tip tanks, fuselage plug to replace the turret, 8 gun nose and replacement rudder.

With this many changes I elected to completely re-scribe the surface of the model.

Etched brass from Eduard was added to the landing gear and gear wells. Tires were replaced with resin items. The cockpit received a second crew station including a scratch built seat and control column along with seat belts.

The clamshell canopy was cut away from the kit part and a spare for a better view of the cockpit additions.

Numerous brass, plastic and wire bit were used to help with the details including stainless steel cattle needles that were cut up and utilized as gun barrels. This tubing was also used for the exhausts.

Cowl flaps are brass.

All the paint is Model Master toned down with flat white. Panel lines were highlighted using a HB pencil and pastels. Pastels and airbrushing was used for the exhaust. Decal were Aeromaster.

The rear crew compartment was detailed using what little information I could find, along with some guess work and artistic license! The door was cut out along with all the hatches to the bomb bay and forward cabin.

Photos were taken at Saskatoon International Airport.
