Indentations were pricked into the base of the propeller shafts with a pin to simulate the

specially for the North Africa campaign ?  It is a map of Africa with a wide eye negro and a
spotted panther's head superimposed on top. Squadron/Signal's publication states that the design
had actually been used by JG 27 even before the French Campaign in 1940. Apparently it
was only symbolic coincidence that the squadron was posted to North Africa.
