Grumman F3F-1

Accurate Miniatures' 1/48 scale F3F-1 is available online at Squadron

Introduction

Here is my F3F-1 from Accurate Miniatures in 1/48 scale.

The "Barrel Three" from Accurate Miniatures is, in my opinion, one of the best kits that I have ever built. It is very unfortunate that this manufacturer is no longer in business.

A superb exterior matches the outstanding detailing of the kit. The decal sheet maintains the standard with markings for every machine built. In my case the white of the roundels was out of register, but the problem could to be solved with a spares from the spare-decal-box.

The model received only minor modifications, for example a new vacuum formed windshield and canopy plus partially new rigging. I made the "cross-rigging" from 0.22 mm diameter guitar wire.

The airplane represents the machine of the section leader of the Blue, 3rd section from VF-7 (the Wasps), which was stationed on the CV-7, USS Wasp. The lacquer finish was achieved by using my usual method - a mixture from 50% of Testors Aluminum Metalizer and 50% Sealer.
