FirstLook

CAT4 has released a new 1/48 decal sheet for two colourful early version Skyhawks.

These suit the A4D-1 Skyhawk. CAT4 has also released a resin 1/48 scale A-4A / A4D-1 conversion (see the HyperScale review here) that will go hand-in-hand with this new decal sheet. Zuni missles are avaialble separately too.

The contents are packed in a clear ziplock bag with a simple cardboard header.

Two really interesting schemes are covered on this decal sheet - one with broad blue and yellow markings on the fuselage and fin, and another with a yellow nose and a pretty wild shark's mouth.

Two versions of the shark's mouth decals are offered - one with the yellow background on the decal and a DIY version with just the black outlines for the yellow nose. I'd be going the DIY mask option myself.

The decals are in register and colours look good. They are printed by Decograph in Ukraine.

National markings and stencils are not included on the decal sheet.

Two sheets of black and white instructions are supplied though - one for each marking option.

Placements are generally clear although neither FS or model paint colours are called out.

The small rectangles with the aircraft numbers are the inside of the flaps, which should be painted red before application of the white numbers.

Conclusion

This is a colourful and inspiring decal set that, in conjuntion with CAT4's A-4A conversion, will deliver a very striking early Skyhawk, regardless of which marking option you choose.

Thanks to CAT4 or the sample.
