I arrived home last night after the long flight back from the UK. Despite my very best intentions, I spent most of the day on the phone and answering emails, so no new update tonight. Business as usual tomorrow - with a little luck!
6 April, 2009
I spent an enjoyable day at the Shropshire Model Show at Cosford RAF Museum today. Congratulations to the organisers for a terrific show. I will be returning home tomorrow, so the next update will be posted on Wednesday.
I apologise for the service problems over the last two days. My hosting company inexplicably decided to change the DNS server details on HyperScale's and Missing-Lynx's servers while they were doing maintenance on Wednesday morning. However, they neglected to tell me about it, so all the sites on both servers winked out of existence. After the third time they suggested that there was no problem and the servers were working perfectly, they finally told me about the altered DNS. I changed the DNS settings on all the domain names to match the servers yesterday morning. It seems that most people can see most of the sites again now, but it might take another 12 hours or so for the information to propagate everywhere.
Squadron has posted a five minute video on YouTube with animated exploded CAD diagrams of the new 1/32 scale Czech Model F-80C Shooting Star being assembled. You may view the video below. Clever stuff!
I have also produced a video review of the new Czech Model 1/32 scale F-80C Shooting Star. The ten minute video may be viewed by clicking the screen below:
If you'd like to see a smaller version of the Shooting Star, check out HyperScale's Airfix Group Build Forum for Tom Muphy's progress on the ancient 1/72 scale Airfix kit. There is lots more great work on the Forum too!
We have a new topic on Theme Pics for a short time, inspired by a couple of recent threads on Plastic Pics - "Model Photos with Backgrounds". Whether you are a Photoshop fiend or simply snap your models against the natural sky, post any photos of your models with a background.
The images in last night's Preview of Vector's 1/48 scale Henschel Hs 126 were not working, so I have rebuilt the thumbnail gallery. You should be able to see the images now (if they are still not working try hitting the "refresh" button on your browser).
And, by the way, contrary to the entirely false suggestion posted to the Plane Talking Forum on the weekend, we have been assured that the Badger Air-Brush Company is still very much in business!
I have posted Part Two of progress on my Eduard 1/32 scale Messerschmitt Bf 109 E-1 on the Plastic Pics Forum. While you are there, make sure you check out Spencer's Jagdtiger and Jeroen's step-by-step build of Eduard's 1/48 scale Fw 190. Great stuff!
I review a model that should be a popular choice for both aircraft and military modellers - the brand new 1/48 scale Tamiya Austin Tilly. Images of all the kit parts, decals and box top are included.
Alpine Miniatures has just released four new figure sets - 16005 WSS Gebirgsjger "Prinz Eugen" (1/16): 35078 British Armoured Crew #1 (1/35): 35079 British Armoured Crew #2 and Puppy(1/35): 35080 British Armoured Crew Set and Puppy (2 figures 1/35). Tonight I round up 17 of Quickboost's recent 1/48 scale releases, including an F6F-3 night fighter conversion, Ju 88 A-4 exhausts, ski landing gear for Eduard's I-16, a Berlin nose conversion for Dragon's Ju 88 G-6 and much more. Images of all the resin parts are included.
Tonight I round up 13 of Quickboost's recent 1/72 scale releases, including exhausts for Spitfires and Il-2s, an engine for Heller's Trojan, a Berlin nose conversion for Hasegawa's Ju 88 G-6 and more. Imaes of all the resin parts are included.
Jules Bringuier has contacted me to advise that rumours of Classic Airframes demise as claimed on HyperScale's Forums this weekend are greatly exaggerated. Jules is currently out of the country on vacation, but confirms that Classic Airframes is still very much alive. The confusion may have resulted from Jules' previous statement that announced kits are still under careful consideration and will be released at a time when market conditions indicates that such an investment can be viable.
Andrew Judson rounds up some recent Voyager Model 1/35 scale photo-etched detail set releases - a WWII PZ.Sfl.Ivb German 10.5cm le FH. 18/1 Barrel W/mantlet for Dragon kit; WWII German 105mm Heuschrecke IVb "Grasshopper" Barrel w/Mantlet; Modern US Army M1A1, M1A2 side skirts; Modern US Army M1A2 TUSK Slat Armour; and a WWII German 20L Jerry Can Upgrade Set.
I am pleased to report that yesterday Testor's ScaleWorkshop videos on YouTube passed the milestone of 1,000,000 views. We'll have plenty more new videos during 2009, but in the meantime you can browse back through our 68 videos.
Considering the popularity of the Airfix Group Build, I am going to extend the term to the end of March. That should give some of you time to finish current projects or start some new ones. Check out the latest progress on the Forum too.
We have a new topic on Theme Pics - "First Model for 2009". We'd love to see what you are working on right now. Post progress photos of your first model of the new year (and don't forget to let us know how you are going as the build continues too!)
Frank Mitchell presents a new Feature Article on his scratch built 1/32 scale F-107A. 28 images accompany Frank's detailed text, including plenty of construction shots.
